When it comes to reading, I'm happy to admit that I like all sorts of books, and will give anything a try.
Reading this book - Peaceful Meadows - totally surprised me, because I initially thought it wouldn't be something I'd enjoy - but I actually really loved it.
Never judge a book by it's cover...or the things you think you know about it's genre is all I'll say.
So, here's my little review - I hope it encourages you to give it a try.
Peaceful Meadows
By Tracey Madeley
Initially I thought “Peaceful Meadows” wouldn't be a story I would enjoy. I found the initial few chapters of the story quite slow and difficult to “get into”. At times, the layout made the story difficult to grasp, but I didn't let this put me off and I’m now very glad I didn't!
The story explores the day to day difficulties facing a family, in particular the two brothers, and their struggle with life, love & university after the loss of their mother.
One brother finds love and an alternative way of living to his norm, within a self sufficient “hippy” commune.
“Peaceful Meadows” explores this alternative lifestyle to society’s expectations in a really positive way. It makes you think about the everyday struggles we all face and gives you opportunity to question them – are these things really as important as we make them out to be?
The characters are well developed and the plot flows quite easily. The book doesn't really bring around many surprises, but you feel like you know where the plot is heading fairly early on.
I felt I knew what the characters personalities would be like and what they would bring to the story almost as soon as they were introduced.
This made me eager to pick the book up again once I had put it down because I wanted to find out if what I believed should happen, actually did happen.
Would the characters get their happy endings?
Would the “villain” be brought to justice?
If you like a fairly uncomplicated read with a nice conclusion then defiantly give “Peaceful Meadows” a try!
3 1/2 *
I hope you enjoy!
