Putting Your Own Stamp On A New Home

If you have just moved into your new dream home then you might be busy thinking about all the ways you can make it your own.

You may have purchased the house due to it's own personality and the feeling you got when you entered it.

If you are unsure of how to make your home more comfy and cosy then you can always take a look online for some ideas and inspiration...

Change The Locks...

One of the very first things you need to do when you move into your new home is change the locks.
A lot of people forget about this but it is absolutely necessary - you never know who still has a key to your property, this could be a previous tenant or owner.
The last thing you want is someone wandering into your own private sanctuary.

Get in touch with a local locksmith and get all locks changed, even window locks if you can.

Usually, a locksmith will give you a good price for getting everything done.

Bring Your Old Furniture...

If you want your new home to feel like yours then instead of buying brand new furniture, bring your old stuff with you.
The mistake people can make when decorating and kitting out their new home is adding lots of new things to it.
This can make your home feel strange and not yours as you need to break all your furniture in to make it feel like your own.

You might have some belongings already such as a bed, couch, and wardrobes - if this is the case then move them in and you will have some of your creature comforts surrounding you.

If you now have a dining room then you will need to purchase a dining table and chairs. If you want your dining room to look contemporary and posh then you might like to buy velvet dining chairs.

These are great if you are entertaining guests for dinner parties or themed events.

Update The Walls...

If you don’t like the way certain rooms in your home make you feel then this could be due to the colour of the walls.

Colours are very important and can mean the difference between you feeling happy and relaxed to worked up and anxious.
Colour psychology is most definitely a thing so it is worth thinking about what colour you would like on your walls.

If you are wanting to redecorate the bedroom then the last colour you want to be using is red - in bedrooms, you want nice calm colours such as whites or pastels.

However, for some rooms, grey and black also work.

Be careful if you use darker colours as these can make a room seem smaller than it is.

Make It Open Plan...

You might want to change some things about the layout of your home rather than just the interior.

One thing you can do is make it an open plan design, this is great if you like lots of space or you have children you need to keep an eye on. You will need to consult the help of a contractor or labourer if you do decide to change the layout of your home - you don’t want to be knocking down walls and ruining the supporting structures within your home.

An open plan is also great if you want to sell your home in the future. It is a very up-and-coming want for most people.

Add Some Smart Tech...

Finally, if you want to make your home feel modern and luxurious then you can add some form of smart tech to it.

We are talking more than just a video doorbell here, there are so many forms of smart tech that you can invest in. There may always be some apprehension towards smart technology as it is sort of a big brother situation where you are being spied on. If this doesn’t bother you too much then take a look at some of your options.

You can invest in smart blinds, these rise and fall on a timer so if you enjoy waking up to the sun in the mornings then set your blinds to rise and wake you naturally.

Do you like a cup of coffee when you get up in the mornings or when you get in from work? You can purchase a smart kettle which you can set on your phone. Your app will send alerts to your kettle to boil or even make you a coffee if you get the upgraded model.

The possibilities are endless...
